Grants
50 stakeholder companies are currently participating through approved mandatory grants; this means that 100% of large and medium companies in the sector are now actively participating in skills development.

67 Discretionary grant contracts are currently being managed by the Chamber before the allocation of the 2010/2011 discretionary grants awards. These contracts are all in support of the TETA SLA targets and represent a multitude of learnerships, skills programmes and apprenticeship-based modules aimed at building the scarce and critical skills base within the sector.

SMMEs
Direct Chamber support to SMMEs has resulted in support to more 50 TETA-registered SMME organisations; this entails a direct benefit to no less than 560 employed learners on structured learning interventions. The Chamber continues to accept applications from registered SMME organisations.

New Venture Creation (NVC)
Chamber support to NVC initiatives over the past few years has been strong. Most of the projects have been implemented in the impoverished fishing communities along the South and West coast lines and in the past year the Chamber has reported 66 NVC learners having competently completed their training. Various other projects are still being managed and it is expected that another 79 NVC learners will complete their training in the current financial year.

NGO Support
The Chamber has proactively sought to extend its reach to NGO sector. Various maritime-related initiatives have been supported, most notable amongst these are the funding of agencies involved in sea rescue services as well as the continued support to schools and institutions that allow for progressions of learners from scholars to qualifying cadets.
