The Forwarding & Clearing Chamber incorporates stakeholders from the following subsectors:
- Freight Forwarding & Customs Clearing
- Ships Agents & Brokers
- International Couriers
- Importers & Exporters
A Freight Forwarder organizes the movement of goods on behalf of importers and exporters, or another company or person internationally by all modes of transport, the nature of the goods and the customer’s delivery requirements determining the most cost effective and economical method.
It may involve using the services of shipping lines, airlines, and road and rail freight operators. In some cases the Freight Forwarder provides the service itself. Companies may vary in size from those operating on a national and an international basis to those that are smaller and more specialized, concentrating on moving specific goods or within particular geographical areas.
Employers within the Freight Forwarding industry are represented by the following Employer Associations:
- South African Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF)
- South African Association of Ships’ Operators and Agents (SAASOA)
- South African Express Parcels’ Association (SAEPA)
Employees within the Freight Forwarding industry are represented by the following Labor Unions:
- South African Transport Allied Workers Union (SATAWU))
- South African Federation Dock Workers Union (SAFDU)
